Spring League - Mite Development

For Birth Years 2016 and Younger -


A combination of skills will be taught during the practice sessions including skating technique, stick and puck handling, power skating and shooting skills.  Many of the skill drills are structured as fun games for the players, providing an environment proven to be conducive to learning.  Short scrimmages may be conducted after practices to reinforce skills learned during the previous instructional period.


Coach Information:

  •    Matt Anderson is the Hockey Director and Master Scheduler for this program.

Program Features:

  •    Approximately 8 practices and 10 game sessions.

                         -Players choose between Tuesday OR Thursday 4:50-5:50 practice slots.

                       - Games are Saturday Mornings on the Pond - Schedule will come out once teams         are formed

  •    Union Sports Arena jersey for individual registrants.

  •    Practices will follow the ADM using small area games and drills.

  •    Games will be 3v3 on the Pond.

  •    All games are non-checking.  Games will be played among the participants of the Spring League here at USA.

Please Note:

  •    Full equipment is required for all Union Sports Arena hockey programs.

  •    All players must be registered with USA Hockey.


Cost: $425

  •    All applicants must pay in full upon registration.

  •    Fee will be prorated for players joining mid-season.

SPRING LEAGUE - Mite Half Ice

For Players Birth Years 2016 and younger who have completed a full season of Mite Half Ice.

SPRING LEAGUE - Squirt

•    This program is intended for players with at least one year of experience playing full ice hockey and "Rising Squirts" (2014-2015 birth years); age 8-10.  


   •    “Town-Based” Non-Checking Teams will be available for some towns. Other players will be placed on rink teams. Players will be divided into divisions based on experience level


   •    This program includes approximately 8 practices (player chooses 1 practice per week), 8 games and Playoffs.

           -Players choose from Tuesday OR Thursday 6:00-7:00 practice slot.

   • Non-Checking will run 13 minute periods.

   •    All individual players will receive a Union Sports Arena team jersey once teams are established.  Full team entries are responsible for providing their own jerseys. GAMES ONLY OPTION AVAILABLE at reduced rate.

Program Goals:


   •    To develop individual hockey skating, shooting, stick-handling and passing skills.

   •    To enhance player speed, agility, flexibility.

   •    To teach basic teamwork, team strategy and game concepts.

   •    To reinforce good sportsmanship through competitive games.


   •    To have fun!!


Program Requirements:


   •    Full hockey equipment is required, including HECC approved helmet with full-face shield, gloves, stick, elbow pads, shoulder pads, knee pads, hockey pants, hockey socks and ice skates.


   •    Players must be registered members of USA Hockey.


Cost: $560

   •    All applicants must pay in full upon registration.

   •    Fee will be prorated for players joining mid-season.

   •    Full (Non-checking) teams may enter at $5,600 per team or $3900 for our games only option.

          -Team entrants are responsible for their own coaches and jerseys.

   Teams will have players register online directly onto the team - we will then have players' USA Hockey registration numbers and waivers. A roster of players still needs to be submitted, but waivers and USA hockey numbers do not need to be on this roster

SPRING LEAGUE - PeeWee

•    This program is intended for both beginning and experienced players; ages 10-12 (2012 & 2013 birth years).  It is particularly suited for players looking to play for their High School team in the coming years. Individual players and teams will be broken into appropriate divisions by skill and experience level. Peewees have 1 individual team practice during the week and a game on the weekend.


   •    “Town-Based” Non-Checking Teams must consist of only players from the same town to compete. Other players will be placed on teams by the rink.


   •    This program includes approximately 8 practices, 8 games and Playoffs.

                                  - Practice and Game Schedule are team based - you will  get this as soon as your player is placed on a team.

   •  Non-Checking will run 13 minute periods.

•    This program is intended for players experienced and comfortable with body contact; age 13-14 (currently in grades 7-8).  It is particularly suited for players looking to play for their High School team in the coming years.

Bantams are split into "Intro to Checking" for our first year Bantams and "Advanced Checking" for qualified players.

   •    This program includes approximately 8 practices, 8 games and playoffs.

                   - Practice and Game Schedule are team based - you will  get this as soon as your player is placed on a team.

   •    Checking Games will run 15 minute periods

   •    All individual players will receive a Union Sports Arena team jersey once teams are established.  Full team entries are responsible for providing their own jerseys. GAMES ONLY OPTION AVAILABLE at reduced rate.

Program Goals:


   •    To develop individual hockey skating, shooting, stick-handling and passing skills.

   •    To enhance player speed, agility, flexibility.

   •    To teach basic teamwork, team strategy and game concepts.

Varsity “B” Division (JV) -


This division is perfect for established High School teams to introduce incoming freshman and JV players to competitive High School hockey. It is also an excellent forum to establish new and growing teams.


-Season will consist of 9 games (8 regular season + 1 playoff)

-Most games will be played Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday evenings.

-Teams can purchase practices at a discounted rate. If interested, please reach out to Matt Anderson, mjanderson346@gmail.com, prior to the start of the season.

- No practices for House Teams. Optional High School Clinics will be offered for purchase throughout the Spring.

-Playoffs will run from Monday June 10th-Sunday June 16th

   -    Playoff format will be determined based upon the number of teams registering.

-All team applications must be submitted, with required payment, by March 15th

-No games will be played Easter Sunday or Memorial Day weekend

-There may be games played at other local rinks in order to finish the season within the stated time frame.

   -    Full equipment is required for all Union Sports Arena Hockey Programs

   -    This program is for current or entering High School students.

   -    ALL PLAYERS MUST BE REGISTERED WITH USA HOCKEY

   -    Players can register directly onto teams with a “team code”

-Jerseys and coach fess are NOT included in the team fees.

-Union Sports Arena will provide jerseys and coaches for individuals organized into “house” teams

-Registration due by March 15th and full payment is required.


League Rules:


   -    USA Hockey rules apply, except where superseded by house rules.

   -    Fighting penalties or any other gross misconduct penalty, may result in expulsion from the league for any remaining games of the season.

   -    For players to participate in playoffs, they must have played in at least 5 of the initial 9 games.

   -    All games are 15 minute periods

   -    Running time for a 6 goal (or greater) differential in the third period.


Varsity “A” Division -


This division is designed for experienced team entrants looking to play in a highly competitive checking division. Online experienced teams searching for the most challenging program should consider this division


-Season will consist of 9 games (8 regular season + 1 playoff)

This High School Girls Spring League includes current 8th grade - current Seniors. All skill levels are welcomed!

League Incudes:

4 Teams

9 Games plus Play Offs - Games Sundays 2:10PM or 3:35PM

10 Practices  - Thursdays 8:10pm, 2nd Slot TBD

Evaluation Skate to determine teams Monday March 18th 7:10PM-8:10PM
